What are the main aims of metaphorik.de?

Metaphor and Metonymy are ubiquitous phenomena in everyday life. They seem to be an essential ingredient of language and consequently of cognition, too. The main questions raised in recent years deal with the problem of how metaphors and metonymies reflect and construct our cultural reality. Their influence seems to have a great impact on how we think, on how we act and on how we resolve the problems we face in our world.

Metaphorik.de is a forum for scientific exchange concerning questions about metaphor and metonymy. One essential point is the support and encouragement of a general  comprehensive and interdisciplinary discussion about metaphor and metonymy. We believe that an open discussion between literary criticism, cultural studies and linguists, for example, may open new ways of scientific investigation. The general interest of metaphorik.de therefore lies in offering a platform where the diversity of research on metaphor and metonymy is encouraged and respected  in order to avoid a monoculture or a fragmentation of the scientific mind.

Articles, reviews and thematic issues for metaphorik.de

Articles do not underlie any thematic or methodological limitation. Admitted publication languages are German, English and the main romance languages. Their thematic and methodological differences rather are a result which is deeply rooted within the diversity and complexity of metaphor and metonymy as a phenomenon of everyday talk, literature, and discourse in mass media. Consequently, different theories and methodologies are necessary to cope with different phenomena.

Another aim of metaphorik.de is to investigate special domains of discourse, for example environmental problems. These thematic issues will be published once or twice a year and form a kind of platform which resumes different perspectives on one domain of discourse.

Metaphorik.de also offers reviews of recent scientific publications on metaphor and metonymy as well as on semantics in general. Anyone interested in reviewing a book is kindly asked to contact the editors` office in order to get the book he or she is interested in. We have an updated list of books to be reviewed.  Please read the style sheet carefully before beginning to write the review!

If you have any questions concerning metaphorik.de, please do not hesitate to contact the editors office at info(AT)metaphorik.de. We will do our best to answer as soon as possible.
